By now you probably know that I have a crush on Street Art. It is happy, beautifies cities, and sometimes sends meaningful social and political messages.
And now, thanks to Instagram, you can see some of the best graffiti and street art in France.
Even though you might not know his name, you are very likely to have seen his works. They are literally anywhere around the world. Although he prefers to remain incognito, and guards his identity carefully, his distinctive creations can be seen in many highly-visible locations in more than 65 cities in 33 countries.
One of his latest invasions is Morocco.
He is a self-declared “graffiti fetishist”.
As a youngster, he learned his trade on the streets and trains of Toulouse, in the South of France. His focus on letters, high impact shapes and bright colours is a reflection of his history as a true graffiti writer, trained on the streets and in the French shunting yards (definition of fields filled with trains). Similarly, his extensive use of bubbly, curvaceous forms relates to his obsession with beautiful females.
Today, Tilt is an internationally recognised graffiti artist.
Ilk is born, lives, and works in a forest in 93 District, the dark zone of Paris suburbs, France.
If you’d meet him, it would not surprise you that he worked many years as graphic designer and art director in the luxury and fashion industry (see: fashhhh attire and jenesaisquoi-attitude). Since 2015 he focuses more on his art and paintings while having a collab from time to time with some of the coolest brands.
If you scroll through SupaKitch’s Instagram profile, you most probably will get the urge to contact him to get a tattoo (and be ready to wait!). However, our champion is an exquisite draughtsman. His latest series of black and gold works might easily win your taste and conquer your eyes.
Born and raised in Paris, he has now relocated with his family to the laid-back, surf town of Biarritz. He works internationally.
He is officially recognised as one of the pioneers of the French “Street Art” movement (Urban Contemporary Art). Today, Speedy Graphito (b. 1961) is one of the major figures of his generation, and internationally so.
If you’re in Zurich, don’t miss out his solo show “Fusion” at Kolly Gallery.
